Privacy Policy
How BarArena collects, uses, and protects information when you browse our sports bar directory—including ads, analytics, and optional location features.
Who we are and what this page covers
BarArena is an online directory that helps people find sports bars, pubs, and similar venues. This Privacy Policy describes what information we handle when you use our website, why we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to visitors anywhere in the world unless a stricter local law says otherwise.
We are not a law firm and this page is not legal advice. If you need certainty for your situation, consider speaking with a qualified professional.
Information we collect
When you browse BarArena, our servers and hosting partners automatically receive typical technical data: for example your IP address, approximate region derived from it, browser type, device type, referring page, and timestamps. We use this to deliver pages, spot abuse, and fix errors.
If you use a contact or similar form on the site, you choose what to send us—usually a name, email address, and message. We keep that only long enough to respond and maintain a record of the conversation if we need to follow up.
Some features (such as “near me” or map-style browsing) may ask your browser for location. That only runs if you allow it in your browser or device settings. You can turn permission off at any time; without it, those features may be limited or unavailable.
We do not ask you to create an account to browse listings. If that changes later, we will explain what is collected and update this policy.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar tools (including local storage or pixels, depending on what we deploy) for essential site operation, to remember preferences where relevant, to measure traffic, and to support advertising.
For a breakdown of categories and your options, read our Cookie Policy. You can also clear or block cookies through your browser; blocking some cookies may affect how certain parts of the site work.
Advertising (including Google AdSense)
BarArena may show ads from third-party networks. Those partners may set or read cookies or device identifiers to measure delivery, limit repetition, and—where allowed—show more relevant ads based on your activity on this site and others.
Google is one provider we may use (for example Google AdSense). Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on visits to BarArena and other sites. You can read how Google uses data from partner sites at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting https://www.google.com/settings/ads . Industry tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance (for US users) or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (for EU users) also list additional opt-outs.
We do not sell your personal information in the sense of exchanging a list of names and emails for money. Where “sale” or “sharing” has a specific legal meaning in your region, we aim to honor applicable opt-out rights as described below.
Analytics and improvement
We use analytics to see which cities, pages, and features people use, how fast pages load, and whether something breaks. That helps us prioritize fixes and write better guides—not to judge you individually.
Analytics data is usually aggregated or pseudonymous. We try to avoid collecting more than we need for those purposes.
How and why we use information
In short, we use information to run the site, keep it secure, reply to you, understand aggregate usage, comply with law, and—where permitted—fund the project through advertising.
Depending on where you live, we rely on different legal bases (for example performance of a service, legitimate interests in operating a safe directory, or your consent where the law requires it for cookies or marketing).
Sharing with others
We share information with service providers who help us host the site, send email, analyze traffic, or show ads. They may only use it on our instructions and where required by contract.
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with law, protect our users or the public, or enforce our Terms of Service.
Retention
Server and security logs are kept for a limited period typical for troubleshooting and abuse prevention, then deleted or aggregated.
Emails or messages you send us are kept as long as needed to finish the conversation and handle any related issue, unless a longer period is required for legal or accounting reasons.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information against unauthorized access or loss. No website can promise perfect security; if we learn of a serious incident that affects you, we will notify you where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can request access to personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct mistakes, or—in applicable cases—ask for deletion or restriction. Contact us through the Contact page and describe your request; we may need to verify you before acting.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you may also have the right to object to certain processing or to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA (such as knowing what we collect, requesting deletion, and opting out of “sale” or “sharing” as those terms are defined there). Use the Contact page and include “California privacy request” in the subject or message so we can route it.
Children
BarArena is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Links to other sites
Listings may link to venue websites, maps, or social profiles. Those sites have their own privacy practices. We are not responsible for how a bar or a third party handles data once you leave BarArena.
Changes
We may update this policy when our site or the law changes. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the bottom of this page. If the change is material, we may add a short notice on the site or contact you where appropriate.
Contact
